Privacy Policy
CareHuddle helps families care for an aging parent together. It keeps a shared list of medications, dose reminders, tasks and visits for each family’s private “circle.” This policy explains what information CareHuddle collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
CareHuddle is operated by Austin Ashburn (“we,” “us”). Contact us at support@carehuddle.app.
What we collect
Account information. Your email address, which you use to sign in with a one-time code, and the first name you choose to show your family.
Information your family enters about the person you care for. This can include:
- the name or nickname your family uses for them
- their medications, including name, strength, directions, reminder times, pill counts and pharmacy
- a record of which doses were given, when, and by whom
- tasks, appointments and notes
- a log of visits and phone calls
This is health information. Anyone in your circle can add or change it.
Information about family members. The names, and phone numbers if provided, of people invited to your circle. Phone numbers are used only to open your phone’s own texting app with the invite. CareHuddle does not send texts itself.
Device information for alerts. If you allow notifications, a push token that lets us deliver alerts to your phone. We also store whether the phone is an iPhone or Android phone.
What we do not collect. Photos of medication labels are read on your phone and are never uploaded to us. We do not collect your location or contacts, and we do not use advertising identifiers.
How we use information
We use information only to run CareHuddle for you and your family:
- to show your circle’s shared information to its members
- to schedule dose reminders on your phone
- to alert circle members when someone gives a dose, a medication is running low, a task is added, claimed or finished, or someone joins
- to sign you in and keep your account secure
- to answer you when you contact us
We do not sell your information. We do not use it for advertising or for marketing outside the app, and we do not share it with data brokers. We do not use health information for anything other than providing CareHuddle to your circle.
Who can see your information
Your circle. Everything entered in a circle is visible to every member of that circle. Only the person who started a circle can invite or remove people.
Service providers who run CareHuddle for us. They may handle your information only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What it does | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Stores circle data and runs sign-in | All account and circle information |
| Resend | Delivers sign-in codes | Your email address |
| Expo, Apple and Google | Deliver alerts to your phone | Your push token and the alert text |
| U.S. National Library of Medicine (RxNav) | Matches medication names to a standard drug list | The medication name being typed, without any other information |
Alert text is written so it never names a medication or a task. For example, an alert says “Maya gave the 8:00 AM doses,” not which medications were given.
Legal reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.
How long we keep information
We keep your information while your account exists. A push token is no longer used after 60 days without the app checking in.
When you delete your account, we delete your account and email address right away. Information you logged in a circle that other people still use, such as doses you gave, stays in that circle without your name. If you are the only person left in a circle, the whole circle and all of its information are deleted. Copies in our provider’s backups are removed on its regular backup schedule, within 7 days.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the app under More, then Delete my account. You can also email support@carehuddle.app to ask us to delete it. See how to delete your account.
- Change or remove information in the app at any time.
- Turn off alerts or reminders in your phone’s notification settings.
- Ask for a copy of your information by emailing support@carehuddle.app.
Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under privacy laws. Contact us to use them.
Security
Information travels encrypted between your phone and our servers. Database rules let only the members of a circle read or change that circle’s information. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us at support@carehuddle.app if you think your account was misused.
Children
CareHuddle is meant for adults caring for a family member. It is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Medical disclaimer
CareHuddle sends reminders and keeps information in one place. It does not give medical or dosing advice. Always follow the directions of a doctor or pharmacist.
Changes to this policy
If we make an important change, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. The effective date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
